We all wear these but do you know the name in English for your preferred underwear style?
Look at the picture above and learn the names for different types of underwear. Next time you go shopping, you'll know what style to ask for. Don't be caught with your pants down! ;)
Here are some synonyms for underwear: panties, undies, undergarments, lingerie, underpants. Note: panties and underwear are the most common.
Note: 'Panties' is a plural noun although the item is singular - just like glasses, pants, scissors. If you're talking about more than one, we use 'pairs' of panties.
Example: "I'd like to buy 5 pairs of panties."
Additionally, 'underwear' is an uncountable noun. Example: "Did you buy the pink underwear or the purple underwear?"
P.S. Don't be caught with your pants down is an idiomatic expression meaning to be asked to do or say something that you are not prepared for.
Example: My boss asked me for the report that she asked me to do, but I was caught with my pants down because I haven't yet finished it.
Now that you've read this free lesson, you'll be prepared!
Have a great day...and....let's go, ladies!
